Written by the author of the stylebook for BBC Radio News, this former BBC producer brings his prodigious wit and learning to the way we use the English language. Should we worry about apostrophes? What are the 100 most used words? Which words are most commonly misspelt; or derived from French, German and Spanish; or are banned at the Daily Telegraph? What are the secrets of becoming a cryptic crossword genius or a master Scrabble player? Richard Baker presents these and many other weighty linguistic matters with the lightness of a fine soufflé.

From leaving home at 13 to live in Soho as a chorus girl, her life has never been conventional. She has shared relationships with both men and women, including rock legend, Billy Fury.

A mother’s story behind one of the most dramatic true crime cases in recent history.

“I have lived every parent’s worst nightmare. On what would have been my daughter’s 29th birthday, Detective Superintendent Stephen Fulcher knocked on the door and told me my beautiful Becky was dead. She had been found buried in a shallow grave in a remote field in the Gloucestershire countryside. Becky had been brutally murdered.”

This is Karen’s story of an unbreakable love for her daughter despite unimaginable tragedy: from her despair through Becky’s troubled teenage years, to the agonising eight years when Becky was missing, and then the dramatic story of how a killer’s confession led to a terrible discovery.

Karen was thrown into a world where the truth was never guaranteed; where taxi driver Christopher Halliwell nearly got away with murder; where the police officer who found her daughter was punished instead. The one constant has been Karen’s determination to fight for Becky, tirelessly campaigning for the truth about what happened and Halliwell to face the consequences of his evil actions.

*The murders of Becky Godden-Edwards and Sian O’Callaghan will soon be the focus of major new ITV series A Confession starring Martin Freeman as Stephen Fulcher and Imelda Staunton as Karen Edwards.

Foreword by Barbara Windsor

Laurie O’Leary knew the Krays since childhood, and remained Ronnie’s closest friend throughout his life. Recollecting his wild times with the Kray gang, he describes the colourful characters who made up the Krays’ ever-changing circle of friends and enemies, and reveals the private side of the complex and troubled Ron Kray: how he reacted to being certified insane after a nervous breakdown in 1958, and how he coped with being a homosexual in a hard man’s world.
