How To Submit Book Proposals
Unlike many agencies, we will always respond to your submissions. To give yourself the best chance of becoming a client of the agency:
Do, please
- Email or post a covering letter, briefly describing the book you want to write and why you are well qualified to be its author. Publishers are always keen to know how promotable you are.
- Make it clear whether you are submitting your proposal solely to us, or to several agencies simultaneously. Also, tell us if you have previously submitted it to any publishers or agents.
- Provide initially a synopsis of chapters, an overview of the whole book, a sample chapter (if one is available), a review of competitive books, your personal profile and details of any previous media coverage, which you or your book has received.
- Show that you have thought really hard about the market for your book and why it will stand out from the crowd. Does it have any unique features? What special authority or information does it have? Why is it timely? Who would buy it (apart from your family and friends)?
- Mention if you are a keen social networker, write a blog or have a Twitter account, anything at all, which would help generate a word-of-mouth buzz leading up to publication of your book and beyond.
- Describe any promotional plans you have to generate publicity and awareness for your book.
What Not To Do!
- Do NOT submit proposals to us for novels, academic books, poetry, children’s books, religious books or film / TV scripts. (Although we do, of course, sell film and TV rights in the books we represent.)
- Do NOT send us a complete manuscript, until we have read your submission and requested it.
- Do NOT forget to enclose sufficient UK postage, if you want your material returned.
